The main universities in Mauritius funded by the state are: the University of Mauritius and the University of Technology.

 

  • University of Mauritius

The University of Mauritius seeks to be a university of international standing and a leading institution in the region. The mission of the University of Mauritius is to provide an efficient and effective service to the community through quality teaching, research, consultancy and extension services, consistent with national goals and policies and in conformance with international norms and standards. In achieving its mission, the University is committed to prepare students for an increasingly complex social and technological world and to improve the well-being of the people of the Republic of Mauritius. The University of Mauritius is offering courses to more foreign students.

There are 5 faculties in the campus of the University of Mauritius which are as follows:

 

  • Faculty of Engineering

  • Faculty of Science

  • Faculty of Law and Management

  • Faculty of Agriculture

  • Faculty of Social Studies and Humanities

Most courses are taught in English.

 

 

  • University of Technology, Mauritius

 The University of Technology, Mauritius has the determination to become one of the leading tertiary education institutions of the region. UTM is a member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities.. The building of the new campus near Moka in the coming years will enable the UTM to increase its number of students, the number of programmes offered and provide better facilities.UTM will aim for excellence along traditional as well as beyond traditional approaches to teaching, training, research and consultancy. To offer a range of university programmes and activities in full-time, part-time and mixed modes to meet the changing needs of Mauritius and develop a regional and international dimension to its activities.
There are three schools in the UTM campus namely:

  1. School of Business Informatics and Software Engineering

  2. School of Public Sector Policy and Management

  3. School of Sustainable Development Science
