Traditional Music and Dance

 

All forms of local dances are performed in Mauritius amongst which being most popular are the Sega Dance. It is a foot-shuffling, body-gyrating, downright erotic dance which is normally performed on the beach to the rhythm of Latin American, Caribbean and African pop. The sega is an integral part of our culture. Taken from African music dating from slavery days, the Sega is currently performed with sophisticated contemporary influences and instruments
